🌍✨ First days Down Under! ✨🌍

We’ve been in Australia for five days now, and it already feels like home. The flight to Newcastle was a real challenge – only two hours of sleep, but the excitement of finally hugging Bai’s mom and her two adorable pups, Fizzy & Flee, kept us going! 🐶❤️ The time difference with Bali is just 3 hours, so we’re a bit confused, but we’re surviving (a little over-caffeinated, but who isn’t?).

After a laundry marathon (3 loads, yes!), we’ve settled into a cozy home in Nabiac, surrounded by the tranquillity of nature. This feels like pure luxury after days of living out of a backpack! 🧳 We stumbled upon a caravan sale and saw everything from tiny fold-up campers to full-on mini homes on wheels. 😍 Maybe for the future?

Tomorrow, we’ll enjoy a Dutch “gourmet” BBQ in the sun with Grandpa and Bai’s mom. We’ll be staying in Nabiac, NSW, for the next three weeks before heading to Bai’s grandma in Numbacca and his dad in Byron Bay.

Scooters, Rays, and Full Moons! 🛵🌊🌕

Our days on the island flew by like a scooter at full speed! 😎 We started in Lembongan, an island slowly waking up from its “look-how-quiet-this-is” nap, but luckily, it hasn’t been overrun by hordes of tourists yet. The roads are so narrow that a scooter and a car almost have to hug each other to fit. 🚗💨 And cars? Well, they’re basically banned, except for the taxi drivers who have a special exemption (of course 😏).

Tourists come here to escape the hustle and bustle of Bali and dive into the famous dive spots. And yes, we spotted the famous manta rays! Not even a minute underwater, and there they were, swimming gracefully by us. Majestic, elegant, and totally unbothered by the busy boats full of snorkelers and divers. They clearly had their own party going on! The rays circled around like underwater VIPs, looking for their favourite snack. 🍽️

And then, nature had a little lesson for us. From Lembongan to Cenigan, you can only travel by scooter or on foot. One full moon evening, we thought, “Let’s grab a drink on the big island and then head back to the bridge.” Well, that was a bit optimistic, because the water was more than knee-high! 🌊 The ocean decided to stretch itself out, and there we were, knee-deep in water with no bridge in sight. What now? We asked some local heroes for advice and decided to just go for it. And of course, in the middle of the water, the scooter died. Oops! 😬 We pushed it to a drier spot, where it miraculously started again, but then it wouldn’t go. A local shouted, “Let it run for a minute.” And yep, after a minute, it was back on track! 🚀 Now, we keep a close eye on tide apps, because you never know when the ocean will surprise you again. 🧜‍♂️

This is just a small preview of the chaos we’ve experienced here, but it’s too much to list! Today, we arrived back in Sanur, Bali. Tomorrow, we’ll pack our things for the last time, because in the evening we’re flying to Australia! ✈️ A new chapter begins, and we can’t wait to see Rachelle, Bailey’s mom, and the rest of the family again. Who knows what new adventures await us there? 🌏✨

Bali, Beaches, and Booking Fails: Our Journey Begins! 😅🌴

Our adventure to Bali started with a whirlwind of last-minute prep, but we managed to get everything sorted—bags packed, check-ins done, and visas all set! After a cozy coffee, we sent the camper into hibernation at my parents’ place and headed to Schiphol, where we had time for pizza before our 10:00 PM flight to Bali via Dubai. The flights were surprisingly smooth, thanks to Emirates’ excellent food, movies, and empty seats, which let us stretch out like royalty! 👑🍿✈️

Arriving in Sanur, we checked into the Hotel (where the bed was just bigger than a single bed—thankfully, air conditioning saved us). We were supposed to catch a ferry to the Gili Islands, but an epic booking fail (I messed up the dates 😬) meant we quickly switched plans to Nusa Lembongan, a quieter island just a half-hour boat ride away. 🚤 After renting bikes and soaking in the lively Sanur Boulevard, we indulged in smoothies, funny local stories, and some Balinese massages. 🍹💆‍♀️

The next day, we caught the ferry to Lembongan, waded through water (unexpected adventure), and settled into a lovely guesthouse. We rented a scooter, cruised through jungle roads, and dodged rain—classic Bali! 🌧️🏍️ Now, it’s time to relax. Life’s good here on Lembongan! 😎🌺

P.S. Who knew booking mistakes could lead to such an awesome change of plans? 🤔

From Camper Life to New Adventures 🌍✨

After an amazing 9-day adventure through Belgium, Luxembourg, and Germany, we’ve spent the past few days parked up in the driveway next to Den’s family home. We’re still living in the bus, but for now, it’s mainly our cozy bedroom on wheels. 🛏️

The good news: we finally discovered the source of the water leak! It turns out there’s a small hole in the rear water tank – a factory defect. When the tank’s full, it turns into a little fountain under the camper floor! 😅 Thankfully, we managed to dry everything out, and we’re getting a new tank under warranty. Phew! (See video)

Now, it’s time to pack up and install the new tank before we board a plane to Sanur, Indonesia! 🇮🇩 A week later, we’re off to Australia until mid-February. We can’t wait to soak up the sun and spend time with family. ☀️✈️

Do you get excited about Christmas markets? ☃️🎄🦌

After a scenic drive from Reinhardstein Castle, we arrived in Luxembourg, where we’ll likely work at a small, cozy campsite next season. It’s nestled next to a forest, and the peaceful setting made us excited for the season ahead. We also visited some villages in the Eifel region, including a campsite by Freilinger See where Den worked years ago.

The highlight of the trip was Düsseldorf, where Den shared her childhood tradition of visiting Christmas markets with Bailey. The markets were just a short walk from the camper site, and we quickly picked up a festive souvenir cup. We explored the markets, tried mulled wine, reibekuchen, and fried cauliflower, and even went ice skating. It was Bai’s first time on the ice, but with a plastic seal sled 🦭, he gained confidence and had fun. We capped off the evening with a ride on the Ferris wheel, enjoying the views despite the strong wind.

Now, we’re heading back slowly to the Netherlands. There we will stay for a few days, before our next big adventure in the Gili Islands and Australia! 🤩

After spending 8 months in a fixed chalet, it’s refreshing to be back on the road in such a compact space—despite the challenges of cold weather, water leaks, and finding a shower along the way.

A few bumps along the way: After just two hours of travel, we discovered a water leak 💦We traced it back to an old issue with the water boiler. Thankfully, after running the heater overnight, the floor was dry by morning. The first few days were cold, with snow flurries ❄️, but we stayed cozy thanks to the diesel heater. We also had some difficulty finding campsites with showers, as most of the ones along our route were already closed. So, we decided to try showering in the camper itself, which actually went surprisingly well, considering we had completely renovated the camper last year and hadn’t used it since! 👏🏻

Despite the challenges, we’ve had a great time exploring and playing tourist. Here’s a quick rundown of some of the highlights:

⛏️ Blegny-Mines
Blegny-Mines is one of the four remaining coal mines in Belgium that you can still visit. We descended 30 and 60 meters underground with a guide, and learned about the tough conditions workers endured. The mine was narrow, damp, and pitch-black—definitely a hard life. One particularly striking story was about boys as young as 8 or 9 who worked deep in the mine to scoop water. The water was just 7°C, and they worked in it for up to 8 hours a day, eating their sandwiches while standing in knee-deep water. It was a sobering reminder of the past.

🏰 Reinhardstein Castle
This medieval castle, hidden in an oak forest, dates back to 1354. While it’s a popular tourist spot, it was still well worth the visit. The guided tours run every hour and are in small groups, giving you an intimate look inside the castle. A 15-minute walk from the castle through a muddy, adventurous path leads to a charming waterfall—another great part of the experience.

We’re loving (almost) every moment of this journey and looking forward to what’s next! 🥳
